Restaurants in Tarrytown

Tarrytowners are a lucky bunch. Centrally located just a skip away from
downtown Austin’s lively buzz, this Old West neighborhood is oh-so-peacefully
tucked away on lush, tree-lined streets with unparalleled convenience
and enough character and enviable charm to boot. And the restaurants?
Slightly limited but still fabulous. Fabi & Rosi rounds out our picks
for favorite Tarrytown eateries. (Pictured: Mozart’s

Austin’s Hyde Park Neighborhood Restaurants

Whizzing past the alphabet streets of Austin’s eccentric Hyde Park is
risky for the indecisive and fruitful for the hungry, as its prime locale
makes it a hotbed for killer restaurants of all varieties. Once 19th century
sleepy streetcar suburb and now a revitalized haven for families, young
professionals and college kids insistent on ditching the dorms, the neighborhood
crop is as diverse as its populace—wheatgrass bars to oyster-slinging
fish markets to bistros with Food Network star power. Below, just a few
of our Hyde Park favorites. – (Pictured behind the massive muscle: Vino

Best Paella in Austin

Oh glorious paella: one indulgent Spanish vacation-turned-unforgiving-bingefest
some 5,000 miles from Austin and we were hooked. Eventually returning
stateside (feeling more worldy and a few pounds heavier), we wondered
if central Texans can whip up the traditional bomba rice dish with much
(if any) justice or culinary integrity. A Sunday rendezvous at Vino Vino
or midweek food romp at Malaga beckon an affirmative sí gorda, estás de
suerte!; and thus, we’re thrilled to say, you can now find us face first
in a piping hot pan of seafood, meat or (if we’re feeling really crazy)
mixed paella right here on home turf. Chow down at any of our Austin picks.

Hotel Lobby Bars in Austin

Hotel lobby bars are quite intriguing because they play host to a variety
of characters. You’ll find business travelers making deals go down and
carefree vacationers who let their inhibitions go. Plus, hotel bars in
Austin also act as hot spots for mixing and mingling among locals. Let’s
take a look at what’s happening inside Austin’s hotel lobbies.

Restaurant Reviews

  • Review of Trifecta on 3rd, Austin
This bourbon/martini bar, with its multiple flat-screen TVs and crafty food menu, proves that men, women, liquor, and sports can coexist afterall. It's cozy, but what it lacks in square footage it makes up in ambiance. (Sunday Funday-ers, get there well before the game. BUFFET.)

  • Review of Sun Tint, Austin
It's a known fact that Texas heat makes our cars quite unbearable, especially in the brunt of the summer months. A home-grown Austin original since 1982, the folks at Sun Tint ensure your automobile, home and business are shielded and protected. Great quality and an ode to customer satisfaction serve as their mantra, and top-notch liability coverage coupled with shuttle service make parting with your car the most painless process.

  • Review of Imperia, Austin
Complemented by elaborate chandeliers, provocative murals, onyx stone panels and a golden Buddha statue, the restaurant's deep reds and dark woods bring to mind the pomp and polish of an imagined Hong Kong supper club. But the warm and friendly staff is purely Austin. Despite excessively dark corners, pristine padded booths and high-backed leather chairs, the staff comes off warm with their conversation and genuine enthusiasm for the menu, though service tends to lag during peak times. Comple...

  • Review of Fonda San Miguel Restaurant, Austin
The lively space feels like a spacious hacienda in the Mexican highlands, with dark woods, leather and warm colors. Paintings by Mexican artists and large tin lanterns hang throughout. A front lounge has sitting areas with couches that invite diners to relax with a Latin cocktail (try the pisco sour or mojito) before their meal and a back bar bustles with the energy of a Mexican resort town. The sopa de elote (cheesy corn soup) has a deep flavor, courtesy of roasted poblanos. Ancho relleno Sa...

  • Review of Saxon Pub, Austin
The giant roadside knight that has guarded the Saxon for years attracts colorful south Austinites, as well as some of the best singer-songwriters and musicians in town. Acts vary from country to R&B to rock and roll. Seven nights a week of live music guarantees a diverse crowd, from soul-music lovers to rock-and-roll aficionados. The space boasts a dedicated sports area with a pool table, darts, big-screen TVs and 10 draft beers to enjoy at the bar.

  • Review of Habana House, Austin
The first thing you'll want to do when entering Habana House is plop down in one of the big, soft leather chairs and have a smoke. But the huge walk-in humidor beckons you and your credit card with everything from the bargain cigar at $1.25 to pre-embargo Cubans aged in cognac. There are also exotic pipe tobaccos from around the globe and a wide selection of pipes, from starters to beautiful Italian pipes for upwards of a grand and beyond.

  • Review of Habana, Austin
The bustling Sixth Street locale draws downtown professionals and hotel guests with iconographic Cuban decor and its unique menu. Decidedly not Tex-Mex, it features dishes made with pork, chicken, plantains, yucca and Cuban white rice. Diners enjoy table service inside or on the lush patio courtyard, consuming imported Latin American beers, mojitos, rum and other tropical drinks. The revolution lives on after 10pm on weekends when revelers take over the downstairs bar and courtyard.

  • Review of Shangri'la, Austin
Entering from the rear at this charming East Sixth dive, you're met with plenty of intimate seating areas that help define the cozily eclectic outdoor atmosphere. Indoors, a few pool tables, a couple of 80s-era arcade games and jukebox (featuring plenty of Austin selections) keep patrons occupied, drinks in hand. Happy hour prices reign all day every day, with PBR and Miller High Life tallboys dominating many a tabletop. The back patio with its own beer garden is spacious and suits the cool c...

  • Review of Wild Orchid Salon, Austin
This sunny salon hidden behind the Gables on West and 3rd is, with only a handful of chairs, a preciously quaint spot to tame those tresses. Half-priced cuts are offered during their Saturday Happy Hour, noon to 3pm.
